Free Wii Points from Nintendo and Other Smart Ways to Get Them

If you live in Europe, Nintendo has made it possible to earn free Wii points by joining Club Nintendo.

Club Nintendo is a membership scheme that's free to join. Members get a regular newsletter and special offers on games and other Nintendo products. Every time you register your Wii games and accessories with Club Nintendo, you'll earn stars that you can exchange for Wii points cards.

Although getting points for free is always better than paying for them, it takes a long time to earn enough points through the Club.

Another issue with Nintendo's free points giveaway, is that they only make a limited number of free Wii points cards available each day. If the points card you're looking for is out of stock, you'll have to try again another day.

I recommend joining Club Nintendo (this link opens in a new window) for all its benefits, and then use any free points you earn as a bonus.

Once you've joined Club Nintendo, you'll need to link your Club Nintendo account to your Wii Shop account to claim your free Wii points cards.

To link your accounts, go to the Wii Shop channel and follow these instructions...

  1. Choose "Start Shopping".
  2. In the next screen choose "Settings"
  3. Then click on the Club Nintendo logo.
  4. When prompted, enter the email address and password you use to log into your Club Nintendo account.
  5. Once you've done this, click on "Link"
  6. Click on "OK" when the confirmation message appears

Club Nintendo is also available to Wii console owners in the US, but the Club in the US doesn't give away free points. Instead of stars, members collect gold coins for every Wii and Nintendo DS game they register. These gold coins can be exchanged for rewards.

Instead of chasing free points from Nintendo, why not let family members know that you'd love a Wii points card for your birthday or Christmas. It's a great gift and a perfect way to get Wii points for free.
